In 2018, Eckert and Austin decided to address the problem of mass shootings with technology and launched SafePro Technologies. The Whitewater-based company created Soteria, an emergency evacuation system that uses an outsourced shot detection system to determine the location of the threat, coupled with proprietary ceiling-mounted integrated laser projection to alert building occupants of the threat and then guide them towards safety.

In short, the City of Whitewater is open for business,” said City Manager of Whitewater, John Weidl.

Blue Line Battery, based in Beloit, is helping to bring clean energy to manufacturing plants by making lithium-ion batteries for use in industrial forklifts as an alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries. With assistance from state and local economic development partners, the company is experiencing growth and has sold its products into 35 U.S. states, as well as Puerto Rico and Canada. 

Wisconsin is a trailblazer in innovative battery technology, harnessing the promise of startups to leverage a place in the international market and revolutionize the way we power vehicles, electronics, and more. Few states have shown as much promise for the future of batteries, specifically in lithium-ion devices, as Wisconsin. As products and vehicles increasingly turn to electric power, Wisconsin is home to several companies researching and manufacturing the latest in lithium-ion technology.
